Abstract:
: From the beginning of the first civilizations until today, hot water has been used. In the beginning, they were used according to their development, and over time they found a wider application, up to the possibility of using them for the production of heat and electricity. At the beginning of the 20th century, a random or well-designed experiment for that time, using steam from hot springs, started a generator that lit several light bulbs. The researcher was a prince and an industrialist, financially secure and ready for new research in this field. His thoughts were in the direction of using hot water energy (later called geothermal energy) for greater energy possibilities. Larderelo is the place where the first geothermal power plant was built, put into operation in 1913, with a power of 250 KW. Over time, it was demolished and rebuilt, and today it is a protected building of special historical value. It works with a reduced capacity of about 190 MW, and 34 geothermal power plants were built in this area, with a total installed capacity of 595 MW of electricity. It represents one of the largest complexes for the use of geothermal energy in the world. More developed countries in the world give more importance to the use of geothermal energy sources, even though in terms of energy they participate in a smaller percentage. Somewhat less developed countries use a higher percentage of this energy, especially in countries where the water temperature is above 150 0C. Iceland leads the way with an energy utilization of around 87% in the total balance, followed by the Philippines with 27%. The advantage of geothermal power plants compared to other energy sources is that they have a high level of utilization during the year, 83-87%. The minimum water temperature for the operation of a geothermal power plant has been reduced to 90 0C today, which opens up the possibility of building geothermal power plants in the territory of the Republic of Srpska. The paper will list all the most important geothermal power plants in the world and their efficiency.
