Abstract:
Telechelic poly(dimethylsiloxane) oligomers are usually synthesised by siloxane equilibration reaction at relatively high temperatures. In present paper a series of α,ω–dihydroxybutyl-poly(dimethyl siloxane)s (PDMS) of the controlled molecular weight was synthesized in the presence of a cation-exchange resin as the heterogeneous catalyst. Influence of the reaction temperature on the molecular weight of the PDMS oligomers was investigated by 1H NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis - infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR) and dilute solution viscometry. The results showed that performing the reaction at low temperature allowed complete control of the molecular weight of the synthesized oligomers.
