Abstract:
In this paper the effect of modification of synthetic zeolites type A with surface active compounds (SACs) was examined. According to Database of Zeolite Structure (2002), Zeolites type A classified into three different grades, 3A, 4A and 5A, all of which posses the same general formula but has different cation type. Zeolit 4A can be defined as a hydrated aluminosilicates of three-dimensional structure with cavities 0.8-1 nm in diameter, which are of the order of a molecule containing the exchangeable cations and water molecules. The process of modification of zeolites with organic SACs leads to partial neutralization of negative charge. The obtained organo minerals have higher adsorption efficiency of harmful components in water and air. Adsorption properties of the modified 4A zeolite are tested with acidic (CH3COOH and C17H33COOH) and alkalic (NH3) adsorbents. Absorption was monitored according to Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The results showed that it is multilayer and physical adsorption. The results showed that the CH3COOH and C17H33COOH is adsorbed in a single layer, and NH3 is adsorbed in multiple layers.
