Abstract:
Transparent plastic foils (Invisalign, aligner) are used to correct mild irregularities of the teeth. Unlike traditional fixed appliances, which consist of brackets, arches and elastic rubber, foil for teeth straightening lead teeth in the ideal position with the help of plastic, transparent aligners. This makes them practically invisible on the teeth, unlike standard fixed apparatus. Invisible foil for correcting the teeth are made of thin, transparent, thermoplastic material (medical polyurethane).
Previously, these materials were used for the purpose of retention therapy after completing the orthodontic treatment. Today, in addition to this they are also used to move the teeth. Plastic transparent foils are an excellent choice for adult patients who are willing to cooperate and to listen to instructions of orthodontist during the treatment.
The aim of this paper is a brief overview of all possibilities and limitations of the use of transparent plastic foils in the treatment of orthodontic irregularities.
